Nora W. Almerina was born in Palermo in the days when the Berlin Wall was falling—though some insist she first saw the light aboard a sailing ship sealed inside a bottle. One autumn night, taking advantage of a tiny crack, she led her crew out of the glass and toward a small Sicilian island pencilled onto a top-secret map. She learned to climb trees before she could walk, and to turn the pages of a book before she could speak. She has been spotted dancing in Soweto, singing and playing the violin in Tbilisi, getting lost in search of an ancient treasure near Lake Van. She studied photography and delved into the most eclectic subjects: bonsai sociology, concealment, and the revolutionary art of promoting invisible works in a museum. Recently, she has returned to her city, and you can find her seated in a café downtown, in the company of her characters.

In a great city on the island of Solea lives Rosa Lia. The holidays have just begun; she doesn't know it yet, but her life is about to change. Ancient trees draw her in with an enigmatic pull, voices and memories resurface from the past, and the puppets crafted by her friend Luciano whisper secrets: before her eyes, the world she has always known begins to shift. A mysterious reality rises to the surface: magare, pupari, and a dark force bent on destroying everything. Rosa Lia and Luciano have no choice. Surrounded by a climate that grows fiercer and more dangerous with each passing summer, they must learn cunning and enchantment, cultivate a talent they never knew they possessed, and guard the secret of a parallel world, through battles and duels where anything can become a weapon: hopes and desires, fears and ghosts, as nature and legend intertwine like the roots of ancient trees.
